Prof. Elena Tremoli is Full Professor of Pharmacology at the Department of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milan from 1999. She is also the Director of the Department of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milan; Coordinator of Scientific Research at the Centro Cardiologico Monzino, Milan, and Director of the “Centro di Ricerche Farmacologiche per lo Studio e la Prevenzione delle Malattie Cardiovascolari”, University of Milan.
Prof Tremoli became Researcher at the Department of Pharmacological Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Milan in 1981, and Associate Professor of Methods in Pharmacology at the same Faculty in 1988.
She has been responsible of the Unit Lipids and Thrombosis at the Enrica Grossi Paoletti Centre for the Study of Metabolic Diseases and Hyperlipidemias (Director prof. C.R. Sirtori), Institute of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milan in 1986-1989. Since 1989 she has been Director of the Research Laboratory of Pharmacology of Thrombosis and Atherosclerosis at the Institute of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milan; Director of the Research Laboratory at the Enrica Grossi Paoletti Centre for the Study of Metabolic Diseases and Hyperlipidemias, Department of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milan. Since 2000 she has been Coordinator of Scientific Research and Director of the Laboratory of Cell Biology and Biochemistry of Atherothrombosis at the Centro Cardiologico Monzino, Milan. Since 2002 prof. Tremoli is Scientific Secretary of the Global Cardiovascular Risk Factors National Campaign
Prof. Tremoli is author of over 350 scientific publications in extenso, of which 160 published on reviews with impact factor.
The research activity of prof. Tremoli involves basic research with pharmacological, biochemical and molecular biology, as well as clinical research in patients at high risk for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular events. The research activity has developed in the field of the relationships among lipids and/or lipoproteins and cell functional parameters, as well as on their control by antithrombotic and/or antiatherosclerotic drugs.
Prof Tremoli takes part in the Board of Directors of the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL); Member of the Directory Board, Secretary and Treasurer of the Società Italiana per lo Studio dell'Arteriosclerosi (SISA - Italian Society for the Study of Arteriosclerosis); Secretary of the Associazione per lo Studio dei Farmaci Antitrombotici (ASFA - Association for the Study of Antithrombotic Drugs); Study Groups of Arteriosclerosis; Member of the Scientific Committee of the Enrica Grossi Paoletti Centre for the Study of Metabolic Diseases and Hyperlipidemias, Department of Pharmacological Sciences, University of Milan; Evaluating Committee of the VI Programme (BIOMED) of the European Union; Member of the Editorial Board of ‘Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases’ from January 2002.
