Ole J. Bjerrum (MD, DMSc) became associated with the Protein Laboratory at the Medical Faculty, University of Copenhagen as Assistant Professor (1970-1974), and as Associate Professor (1974-1987). In the period he served five years as director of the laboratory. Further to this Ole J. Bjerrum has 14 years of industrial experience at Novo Nordisk as Director, first of a diagnostic unit followed by working with various aspects of drug discovery. From 2001 he served as Professor of Pharmacology at the Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Scientifically his interest is presently in vitro and in vivo pharmacology aspects of neuropathic pain.
Ole J. Bjerrum joined the EUFEPS Committee on Industrial Relations (CIR). In 1999 he became member of the Executive Committee and served from 2000 as President-elect and since 2003 as President. He has taken an interest in the promotion of the pharmaceutical sciences in Europe, through formulation of a new theme: New Safe Medicines Faster which has had significant impact on the EU 6th Framework Programme for 2003-2007.
