Plenary Sessions

CLINICIANS’ DECISION MAKING IN CARDIOCEREBROVASCULAR DISEASES: open questions

Risk Stratification in Asymptomatic Subjects Wolfgang Koenig (Ulm, Germany)
Acute Coronary Syndrome Juan Carlos Kaski (London, UK)
Heart Failure Claudio Rapezzi (Bologna, Italy)
Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke Jan Sobesky (Cologne, Germany)
Diabetes Antonio Pontiroli (Milan, Italy)

Purpose of this session:
To highlight the problems and critical areas in clinical decision making in five clinical-patho-
logical areas for an individualized diagnosis.

Rapporteurs (throughout the Course)

Rapporteurs will participate in all the sessions and will collect critical points, shadow areas, issues for reflection, and proposals to be discussed in the final session (Saturday, October 29).
They are experts on biochemical/bioimaging markers and on clinical decision making:

Santica M. Marcovina (Seattle, USA)
Filippo Crea (Rome, Italy)
Jean Davignon (Montreal, Canada)
Pier Luigi Pieri (Cesena, Italy)

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28

Workshops

Participants, divided into two groups, will attend all the Workshops

BIOCHEMICAL MARKERS TOWARDS INTEGRATION: methodological criteria

To define the criteria for the integration of biochemical markers in terms of:

Quality Specifications Mauro Panteghini (Milan, Italy)
Clinical Utility Allan S. Jaffe (Rochester, USA)
Health Economy Bengt Jönsson (Stockholm, Sweden)

BIOIMAGING MARKERS TOWARDS INTEGRATION: methodological criteria

To define the criteria for the integration of bioimaging markers in terms of:

Quality Specifications Pasquale Perrone Filardi (Naples, Italy)
Clinical Utility Paolo Raggi (New Orleans, USA)
Health Economy Leslee Shaw (Los Angeles, USA)

BIOCHEMICAL MARKERS TOWARDS INTEGRATION: predictive value

To define the predictive value of selected biomarkers alone or in combination in terms of:

Acute Coronary Syndrome Martin Möckel (Berlin, Germany)
Heart Failure Ulf Landmesser (Hannover, Germany)
Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke Joan Montaner (Barcelona, Spain)

BIOIMAGING MARKERS TOWARDS INTEGRATION: predictive value

To define the predictive value of selected biomarkers alone or in combination in terms of:

Acute Coronary Syndrome Jeanette Schulz-Menger (Berlin, Germany)
Heart Failure Mauro Pepi (Milan, Italy)
Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke Gian Luigi Lenzi (Rome, Italy)

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29

Round Table

INTEGRATED BIOCHEMICAL AND BIOIMAGING MARKERS IN CARDIOCEREBROVASCULAR DISEASES:
answers and proposals for further developments

To define the pros and cons of the use of integrated biomarkers in clinical decision making in:

Risk Stratification in Asymptomatic Subjects
Acute Coronary Syndrome
Heart Failure
Transient Ischemic Attack and Stroke
Diabetes

Discussants:
Rapporteurs and Clinicians

Purpose of this session:
This session will attempt to answer the questions presented in the opening plenary session. The rapporteurs will present a synthesis of the critical points, shadow areas, issues for reflection, and proposals to be discussed that emerged during the various Workshops. The rapporteurs and the clinicians will discuss the pros and cons of the use of integrated biomarkers in the clinical decision making process.
